You call me lavender, you call me sunshine

Yesterday I added more colours to my hair. The original base colour of my hair when I got it dyed was a greyish purple. But the purple wasn't as vibrant as I wanted it to be. So I used Directions Hair Dye in Lavender and Lagoon Blue. I mixed the whole container of Lavender with a little bit of Lagoon Blue (like a quarter of the container) and covered the bottom half of my hair using a tint brush. Then I used the rest of the Lagoon blue on my roots and the top half of my head. Applying and waiting for the colour to set only took half an hour, it was so fast. The result was a rainbow or light blues, violets and pinks. It changes colours in the sun, and it makes me feel like a mermaid.

Side note: A lot of people were asking me questions about my hair, and I'd love to answer them. We can start a little question and answer sesh in the comments if you'd like. I will attempt to give you insightful answers if you have any inquires involving how I dyed my hair or dying your own hair. Let me know! :)

    1. I dyed it with Directions hair dye. they come in a lot of colours. I had Lavender and Lagoon Blue and the dyes were really concentrated so I didn't need to use too much of them :) ill check out you blog!

  5. astonishing result! The different colours perfectly mixed up and I was waiting for a mermaid tail or some fairy wings to grow at the end of the photoshoot!
I'd love to try this wonderful dye, but my hair is quite dark and I hate hairdressers, could I manage to dye the roots by myself ? And are you using some product to avoid hair damage?
    Thank you!

    1. Thank you! You are going to have to bleach your hair a few times to have it light enough to achieve a light pastel colour. You can do the bleaching at home because it is quite easy, but if you dont feel comfortable doing it yourself I highly recommend going to a hair dresser. My mom usually helps me because I can't always see the back areas of my head, even with a mirror.

I have a few tricks I use to help avoid damaging my hair. Of course when bleaching and dyeing hair there is going to be some damage, there is no avoiding it. But after bleaching my hair the first time, I still needed it to be a shit ton lighter if I wanted pastel colour hair. Instead of doing it all in one sitting, I lightened it over time, waiting at least 2-4 weeks between treatments. Also instead of using just hair bleach I have been using Loreal Blondissima. Its really good and claims to be not as damaging as bleach, which I find it is. I also use protein shampoos to keep my hair strong. I also use this treatment oil called Young Again by Kevin Murphy which keeps my hair looking and feeling natural. Because usually what happens when people bleach and dye is their hair starts to look and feel like straw. But using good shampoos and conditioners can help prevent that.

I hate hair dressers too, and i mean H-A-T-E. But I did go to a hair dresser when I dyed it light purple. And I loved it because the dye she used on my hair was permanent. I couldn't find any purple hair dyes in drug stores that were permanent, they are all semi permanent and fade after like 5 washes. So the hair dresser was my best choice and I loved how it turned out. If you can find a permanent purple hair dye than go for it, because it will probably be cheaper.

I hope this wasnt confusing, If anything is, ill try to explain it best as possible.

    2. Thank you very much Paolina!Your answer is not confusing at all!
I hope to find the right hairdresser now, sometimes they are not very confortable in dye a long dark haired person, I live in Italy and everyone feels like the perfect hair stylist, so they usually don't dare to change your natural color!
      Wish me luck!

  10. First of all, your hair looks REALLY great. I've been wondering what brands are good for pastel/light colors that last a long time so I would be interested to know how long this lasts before fading out..?

    1. Thank you! Usually pastel coloured hair dyes can only be found in semi- permanent dyes in drugstores. They don’t usually come in permanent dyes, well at least not that I’ve seen, so the colours do fade, and they fade easily. The products that are best are the ones people usually use which are Directions and Manic Panic. They both have a wide range of colours. I have used both before and I find that Manic Panic lasts longer but I like the colours offered by Directions better. Earlier this summer I dyed my hair pink using Manic Panic and the colour only started to fade after 5 washes, and it took about 3 weeks (about 15 washes) for the colour to totally fade out. I have Directions in my hair right now, and I found the colour started to fade after the first wash. Ive washed about 3 times now and the colours are really faded. It’s a nice look. But it means I am going to have to but a lot of dye to maintain this colour. If you go to the hair dresser though, you can get them to dye your hair a pastel colour that will last permanently. That’s what I have for my base colour.

One way I try to keep the colours vibrant in my hair is by using a purple toner shampoo. The effects are very minimal but it does help keep my hair colours vibrant.

Good luck! I hope this helped and if you have any more questions don’t hesitate to ask 

  11. Your hair looks gorgeous! I've had lagoon blue on my ends before and it's lovely. The lavender is gorge too, especially if you put it over pink and then you get that amazing mermaid mutli tonal effect you were talking about. xx

  12. Your hair looks amazing Paolina, I'd absolutely love to have hair like this, but I can't. My hair is weak and I barely have any of it!!! I don't know what the hell is wrong with me, but lately, I've realised, I'm definitely losing hair. It's depressing :( Anyway, I'll stop with my sob story. Love everything in this post.

  16. Looks incredible, babe. I've been dying mine at a salon and at home for a few years now. I've been seriously considering bleaching my whole head for a while (because I'm almost all there anyway) - and I have a collection of wigs I wear frequently that convince me to bleach it out. The wigs are pastel hues and I love how they look. My personal stylist back at home won't bleach my head but I don't mind doing it - we are young and should pull off the look! I never want to regret NOT doing it!
